Corey Graves and the Split that Isn't

A few weeks ago, JBL left Smackdown Live and it was announced that Corey Graves would replace him. So this means he is one of the commentators on both Raw and Smackdown.

Commentator...this means he is a prominent voice on the show. His voice, his face, his views and his commentary are representing the show itself.

Or, as WWE will have you believe...the BRAND itself.

I know...I've beaten up on this brand split several times in the past month...but take a second to think about this: Corey Graves is now the face and voice of BOTH BRANDS.

How can this be?!

Pepsi used to own KFC, Taco Bell and Frito-Lay.
Did you ever, ever, ever see the SAME mascot on both brands?
Yes, there is a Taco Bell burrito with Fritos in it...but when was the last time it was advertised? When was the last time the same "character" advertised it?

It doesn't happen.
Brands are brands BECAUSE they are unique. BECAUSE they are different from other brands, even when they are OWNED by the same parent company.

The idea that the WWE can insist they are offering a "brand split"...and then giving the 2 brands the same commentator would be like having Colonel Sanders do commercials for Taco Bell.

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE Corey Graves and I think he's one of the best commentators WWE has right now. But this situation takes an already laughed at idea and makes it MORE laughable.

How does WWE continue to shoot itself in the foot with this branding concept?!
